<p>You may know how common chronic kidney disease is, but did you know that the disease could soon have a new &#8211; and much younger &#8211; face in Malaysia? With more children and adolescents developing obesity and diabetes, there is an increasing risk of renal impairment or even chronic kidney disease being diagnosed at a younger age. In conjunction with World Kidney Day, we speak to Prof Dr Lim Soo Kun, President of the Malaysian Society of Nephrology, and Dr Jaclynn Chin, Head of Public Education, National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia, to find out more.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A urinary tract infection is one of the most common infections to affect humans; in fact, if you’re a woman, you’re even more likely to have a UTI at some point in your life. But despite how common and treatable it is, it can also be very uncomfortable and painful to deal with. According to the Ministry of Health, it was estimated that there would have been 51,000 patients with end-stage kidney disease on dialysis last year. Unchecked, the number could rise to 100,000 by the year 2040. However, dialysis isn’t the best treatment option for people with kidney failure – a kidney transplant is.
