Typically, we’ve thought of bariatric surgery as invasive procedures that remove part of the stomach, or bypass it. As the technology improves, surgeons are now able to move towards minimally invasive procedures, such as the Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty. But how effective is this procedure for weight-loss, are there any risks or complications to manage, and is it a quick-fix for treating obesity? Our conversation with Dato’ Dr Tikfu Gee, consultant general and bariatric surgeon tries to clarify these questions.

For patients with chronic diseases, it’s not just managing their health and treatment to think about, but how the costs could add up over time. Especially for diseases like cancer, it’s not uncommon to hear of patients who struggle to pay for treatments that would be lifesaving. While there are avenues for patients to seek financial aid, how effective have these been? What are the gaps that remain? We speak to Dr Anas Nofal, Chief Business Officer of Axios International to find out and discuss how Axios also sees their On-Time Access model changing the landscape.

In 2023, Malaysia ranked second in the Southeast Asian region in terms of the number of global industry-sponsored studies. How do we maintain our potential as a regional hub for clinical trials, especially moving up the value chain to focus more on Phase 1, or first-in-human, clinical trials? Dr Akhmal Yusof, Chief Executive Officer of Clinical Research Malaysia, and Dr Mohamed Elwakil, Country President of Novartis Malaysia, join Dr George Lee to discuss.
